RAVITCH Repair (Sternoplasty)
Surgical treatment technique of Pectus Excavatum deformity which is still used in many centers as a modified form was described by Ravitch in 1949. In this technique all the deformed cartilage of ribs are excised with their perichondrium, xiphoid and intercostal muscle fibers are detached from sternum, sternum is remodelled with transvers osteotomy at the level of manibrium by using Kischner wire or steel strut. In modified form deformed cartilage of ribs are excised without perichondrium and intercostal muscle fibers are not detached. This technique can be used both for Pectus Excavatum and Pectus Carinatum deformities.
